Coming to Netflix on 6th July is David Oyelowo's feature length directorial debut, The Water Man. This tells the tale of Gunner, (Lonnie Chavis) who, after moving to a small town, goes in search of urban myth the Water Man. Apparently he has the power of immortality and as Gunner’s mother has become very ill, the Water Man may just be the cure.
The trailer gives a coming-of-age feel, a telling of the world through the eyes of the young and the wonderment (and some times truth-bending vision) that comes through them. I'm getting a Stand by Me (1986) vibe from this due to it's nostalgic feel along with themes of friendship, big-hearted, good-natured and sometimes supernatural elements of the classic Amblin films of the 1980s.
